Edward Matto’s practice focuses on counseling and litigation in the antitrust and related competition law areas (including mergers and acquisitions, unfair and deceptive trade practices, trade secrets, misappropriation of proprietary information, non-compete contracts and misuse of trademarks and patents), and in the intellectual property asset protection and infringement litigation area. He is experienced in complex litigation including intellectual property, antitrust and general business litigation, treble damage and government suits, and governmental civil investigations. His experience also includes representing clients in multi-million dollar damage actions.
Mr. Matto serves as Managing Member of the Columbus office.
REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE
- Developed intellectual property policy for client with billion dollars in revenue to identify, assess value and protect its IP assets
- Provided advice to clients on cost benefit assessment in protecting the client’s developed proprietary information and innovations
- Developed various agreements for client to protect trade secrets and proprietary information in joint activities with third parties
- Represented plaintiffs in patent infringement actions
- Represented defendant in patent infringement case involving a key product in defendant’s product line
- Represented defendant in deceptive advertising matter filed by a competitor
- Provided antitrust advice to various clients on structuring of transaction with a competitor, acquiring a competitor and exclusive dealing arrangements
- Provided continuous antitrust advice to international standard setting association
- Represented merging entities in several matters in which the FTC/Department of Justice reviewed the proposed merger
- Represented defendant in price fixing conspiracy case
- Represented defendant in antitrust claims of illegal joint activities to keep competitor out of market
- Defended client in claimed breach of contract involving multi-million dollar claim
