Morgan Griffith concentrates in the representation and counseling of employers in workers’ compensation, federal black lung and related employment matters.

She represents both self-insured employers and employers who subscribe to the West Virginia Workers’ Compensation Fund including the interests of coal mine operators, chemical industries, construction contractors,light and heavy manufacturers, retail and service business restaurants, hospitals, nursing homes and personal care facilities, and wood products and timber industry.

She has handled claims of injuries and diseases common to these employers, including physical injuries, including head, neck and back injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, chemical exposure, occupational hearing loss, occupational pneumoconiosis, and psychiatric disabilities.

Legal Ethics
In addition to workers' compensation and federal black lung matters, Ms. Griffith represents Respondents before the Office of Disciplinary Counsel in matters involving alleged violations of the Rules of Professional Conduct.

BACKGROUND

Ms. Griffith worked at the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals as a workmens’ compensation writ clerk. In that position, she reviewed appeals and drafted summaries of those appeals, which she then presented to the five justices of the Court. She also researched a number of workers’ compensation issues.

Most recently, Ms. Griffith worked as a lawyer disciplinary counsel for the Office of Disciplinary Counsel, a branch of the West Virginia State Bar. In that position, she reviewed ethics complaints filed against attorneys, handled the lawyer disciplinary proceedings, and gave informal advice to hundreds of West Virginia attorneys in the area of legal ethics. Ms. Griffith also taught a number of continuing legal education programs in the area of ethics..

EDUCATION

Ms. Griffith received her legal degree from the West Virginia University College of Law in Morgantown, West Virginia. Ms. Griffith received her undergraduate degree from Denison University in Granville Ohio, where she graduated summa cum laude. Ms. Griffith was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Mortar Board.
