City Profile:  Meadville, PA

Considered the birthplace of the modern oil industry, Meadville is a highly productive city and the county seat of Crawford County, Pennsylvania. Meadville is generally considered part of the Pittsburgh Tri-State area

Crawford County offers a relaxed, friendly, family-oriented atmosphere with a high standard of living. Recreational and cultural amenities abound right at home while its prime location to major routes provides easy access to amenities found in larger cities. Interstate 79 runs straight through the center of the county, and connects to Interstate 90 to the north and Interstate 80 to the south and points beyond providing transportation solutions to both residents and businesses.

Mostly rural, farming and agricultural businesses play an important part in the region's economy yet manufacturing, healthcare and natural resource industries maintain the major share of employment in the county. Well known for its active oil steeps, Meadville and neighboring cities provide a geographic foundation for oil and gas field exploration services and an economic development platform supporting related energy operations.

Located in the northwest part of the state, Meadville is linked to the rich farm lands of the French Creek Valley. According to the 2000 Census, Meadville is home to more than 13,000 full-time residents. City, county and state government offices are conveniently located in the downtown business district, which also serves as an active center for industry, education, the arts, recreation, service and tourism. Allegheny College and Edinboro University both have campuses located within city limits. The Meadville Area Recreation Complex provides year round activities for all ages, and the historic Meadville Market House supplies locally grown produce and products, year round.
