Wheeling, the former State capital with a population of approximately 35,000, is located at the midpoint of West Virginia’s Northern Panhandle. Ohio sits just minutes to the west, while Pennsylvania lies only minutes to the east.
Wheeling is home to many social and cultural activities, including the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, the Capitol Music Hall, the Stifel Fine Arts Center, and the Towngate Theater.
Two semi-professional sports teams, the Wheeling Nailers Hockey Club and the Ohio Valley Greyhounds (arena football), are also based in Wheeling. The Wheeling Park system, featuring Oglebay and Wheeling Parks, is abundant with natural beauty and a variety of activities, including world class golf courses, tennis courts, swimming pools, lakes, horseback riding, and the Festival of Lights, which runs throughout the winter holiday season.
Wheeling is also home to many lovely Victorian houses, which have recently been restored to the splendor of yesteryear.
