Loss prevention partners
Managing partners, chairs, and others in firm management
Summary of Program: This webcast will address effective ways for firms to structure and support the law firm general counsel position. As many of you know, ALAS recently surveyed our member firms on a range of topics relating to the GC position, including hours, responsibilities, challenges, and internal support staff and resources. (The survey also included questions for the roughly 25% of ALAS firms without a specifically designated GC, and those firms will also benefit from the webcast.) The results of the survey will help frame the webcast discussion, which will feature the varied perspectives of a firm managing partner and two firm general counsel.
We encourage ALAS general counsel, loss prevention partners, claims counsel, and members of firm management to watch this webcast. As always, the webcast is free for ALAS firms.
Panel Participants: We are pleased to have the following panel for the webcast:
• Susan S. Brewer, Chief Executive Officer of 340-lawyer Steptoe & Johnson PLLC, resident in the firm’s Morgantown, WV, office. Susan has served as CEO of the firm since 2009, and in that position works regularly with the firm’s general counsel, who leads a formal Office of General Counsel.
• Lawrence A. Kasten, General Counsel of 230-lawyer Lewis Roca Rothgerber LLP, resident in the firm’s Phoenix office. Larry has served as GC since the firm created the position in 2007. He also maintains a practice in appellate litigation.
• Mark McLaughlin, General Counsel of 1,700-lawyer Mayer Brown LLP, resident in the firm’s Chicago office. Mark has served as GC since 2007 and has been a member of the firm’s Management Committee since 2012. As GC, Mark leads the firm’s global risk management team.
