Morgantown, W.Va. – Steptoe & Johnson PLLC Chief Executive Officer Susan S. Brewer has been appointed by West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin to serve as a member of the state’s Judicial Vacancy Advisory Commission.
The eight member commission is responsible for interviewing candidates vying for judicial vacancies. The commissioners then narrow the field to a few finalists for recommendation to the governor for possible appointment.
“I’m honored to be selected by Governor Tomblin to join the commission,” said Brewer. “Appointments like this are a defining moment in an attorney’s career, and I am looking forward to helping select the best judicial candidates to serve West Virginia.”
Brewer has been practicing law with Steptoe & Johnson for more than 34 years. In 2009, she assumed the role of chief executive. Her legal experience involves litigation, with a particular concentration on the defense of professional liability claims. Throughout her career, Brewer has tried more than 100 jury and non-jury cases in state and federal courts, and has been involved in appellate proceedings before the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals and the United States Court of Appeals.
Brewer is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and is ranked among The Best Lawyers in America® for 2015. She earned her legal degree from George Mason University and her undergraduate degree from Duke University.
