Governor Earl Ray Tomblin guest speaker at Steptoe & Johnson Issues & Answers event
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin visited the Bridgeport office of Steptoe & Johnson PLLC on Monday as the guest of honor for its second Issues & Answers luncheon. The governor met with attorneys and business leaders to discuss critical issues affecting the state including jobs, health care and energy. The focal point of Governor Tomblin’s remarks was the possible construction of an ethane cracker facility in the state.
“We have four companies interested in building cracker plants here in West Virginia,” the governor said. He continued, “I feel that we have a company that will make that investment soon. In West Virginia, we’re poised and ready for these plants with our pipelines and infrastructure.”
“Steptoe & Johnson has worked closely with companies looking to expand operations in the Marcellus and Utica shales,” said Energy Team Leader Sharon Flanery. “Governor Tomblin knows as well as we do that the addition of a cracker plant will boost the state’s economy and be an incentive for further economic investments,” she concluded.
Government Relations Coordinator Gil White reiterated the governor’s optimism: “Though the state’s economic outlook is bright, one or more new facilities would be a win for West Virginia and could help the governor in a pivotal election year,” said White.
The hosts for the event included Susan S. Brewer, Robert M. Steptoe Jr., Sharon O. Flanery, George E. Carenbauer and William D. Wilmoth.
