  • Conducted multiple investigations involving employee misconduct and student matters
  • Provided general legal counsel to a board of education in the areas of personnel, property, special education, contracts, student/parent rights and policy developments
  • Represented local board of education at all levels of the West Virginia State Employees Grievance Board, West Virginia Department of Education Citizens Appeals, employee misconduct hearings, student hearings and special education due process hearings

  • Defended Board of Education in claim alleging violation of First Amendment and due process rights by student disciplined for using social media

  • Assisted client that acquired a private university and converted it to a for-profit educational institution
  • Assisted client with commercial and contract issues for an affiliated company which provides on-line education and financial tracking information for insurance agents and securities brokers

  • Defended Board of Education in high profile suit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union alleging violation of the separation of church and state

  • Represented Boards of Education in grievance hearings, in matters before the Grievance Board, in employment matters, and in civil litigation
  • Defended colleges and universities in grievances, faculty tenure matters and employment matters
  • Defended numerous county boards of education from workers' compensation claims and protests regarding denial of benefits
  • Defended Board of Education in jury trial for failing to address complaints of student-on-student harassment
  • Jury trial on behalf of board of education where severely-injured student sought damages for injuries sustained while skipping class
  • Defended Board of Education in federal court in high profile litigation alleging sexual discrimination by high school teacher against student
  • Sought dismissal of premises liability action for national retailer and a local board of education
