Alert: White House Report Signals Enhanced Title IX Enforcement
On April 29, the White House released “Not Alone,” the first report of the White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault. As a result of this report, many Federal agencies promise more active and coordinated enforcement of Title IX in the coming months.

  • Provided general legal counsel to a board of education in the areas of personnel, property, special education, contracts, student/parent rights and policy developments
  • Defended Board of Education in jury trial for failing to address complaints of student-on-student harassment
  • Assisted client that acquired a private university and converted it to a for-profit educational institution
  • Assisted client with commercial and contract issues for an affiliated company which provides on-line education and financial tracking information for insurance agents and securities brokers
  • Defended numerous county boards of education from workers' compensation claims and protests regarding denial of benefits, treatment issues, and claims for indemnity benefits
  • Represented local board of education at all levels of the West Virginia Public Employees Grievance Board, West Virginia Department of Education Citizens Appeals, employee misconduct hearings, student hearings and special education due process hearings
  • Jury trial on behalf of board of education where severely-injured student sought damages for injuries sustained while skipping class
  • Conducted multiple investigations involving employee misconduct and student matters
  • Represented land services agency, producers in various lease termination cases
  • Sought dismissal of premises liability action for national retailer and a local board of education
  • Served as Level One Hearing Officer in hearings conducted pursuant to West Virginia Public Employees Grievance Board procedures
