Who knew that the pepperoni roll was invented in West Virginia? How many people are aware that the player profile used in the NBA’s official logo is West Virginia native, Jerry West? More importantly, how many people know that Forbes magazine ranked Morgantown, WV among the Top 10 Best Places for Business and Careers in 2007?
In 2005, Steptoe & Johnson took on the challenge of spreading the word about West Virginia’s special attributes, accompishments, and rich history to clients, friends and colleagues. The firm developed West Virginia First, a pocketsize booklet highlighting first place honors and unique facts about the Mountain State. The objective was to create a simple yet compelling way to promote a positive image of the state and to position the firm as an ambassador for West Virginia. The effort won a first place Your Honor award from the national Legal Marketing Association (LMA) in 2007.
The booklet’s demand and praise (10,000 disseminated during the first year and a Crystal Award from the West Virginia Public Relations Society of America in 2006) spurred Steptoe & Johnson to publish second and third editions, complete with even more interesting facts.
