Stephen A. Houston

Biography

Stephen Houston has over 20 years of experience helping clients solve problems. He has extensive experience with equine law, planning and zoning issues, closely held business disputes, estate planning, and environmental law. He has an in-depth understanding of local Comprehensive Plans and zoning regulations and has often represented businesses and individuals with compliance and violation issues related to planning and zoning laws and ordinances.

He has also helped his clients in all aspects of equestrian activities including purchase and sale contracts, liability issues, regulations, insurance, animal welfare, dispute resolution, business planning, taxation, and breeding disputes.

Representative Experience

  • Successfully represented a large chemical company in multi-billion-dollar environmental litigation
  • Successfully represented a group of clients who were members of a non-profit equine association and obtained sanctions against the association for document destruction
  • Regularly represents equine professionals and participants in front of the United States Equestrian Federation, Inc.
  • Successfully represented a client in a dispute over embryos and the valuation of horses. Obtained a jury trial verdict worth approximately $500K that was upheld by the Court of Appeals
