Michael E. Flowers Named Director of Diversity and Inclusion

Flowers to lead diversity initiatives, attract diverse legal talent, grow community involvement    

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Steptoe & Johnson PLLC announced today that Michael E. Flowers will serve as the firm’s first Director of Diversity and Inclusion.

As Director, Flowers will execute the Diversity and Inclusion Committee’s annual strategy as well as assist with programs designed to attract and retain diverse talent.  He will liaise with diversity-focused legal and community service organizations.  He will also partner with firm leadership to educate current and potential clients on diversity efforts and progress.

Brewer.  “Mike will be the driving force behind our diversity and inclusion strategy, which means we are in very capable hands now and for the future.”

Flowers joined the firm in 2016 and practices business, real estate, and corporate finance law.  He recently completed 12 years of service as a member of the Columbus State Community College Board.  He was appointed by former Ohio Governor John Kasich as a member of the Minority Development Financing Advisory Board and was also appointed to the Small Business Advisory Council by the former Lieutenant Governor.

Last year, he was named an outstanding diversity champion by Columbus Business First.  Flowers is a member of the board of trustees for Bucknell University and for National Church Residences.   He is named among The Best Lawyers in America®.

At the national level, Flowers is a former member of the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association and a former chair of the ABA Section of Business Law. He is currently a special advisor to the ABA Rule of Law Initiative, which implements legal reform programs in more than 50 countries around the world.

He earned his law degree from The Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University and his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bucknell University.  He completed the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth University Minority Business Executive Program.
