EPA Opens Database to Public

Like staying current? Never miss a beat!

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced that it is allowing public access to a database of materials related to studies. The Health and Environmental Research Online (HERO) database contains more than 300,000 articles that the EPA uses to develop environmental risk assessments for the public. The EPA advises that it "uses risk assessments to characterize the nature and magnitude of health risks to humans and the ecosystem from pollutants and chemicals in the environment."

The EPA articles are available via www.epa.gov/hero. Searching for the articles on the EPA website may be done by searching for keywords or browsing by topics.

Providing public access to the HERO database allows a review of studies that are relied upon to regulate environmental issues, including chemical and ambient air quality standards.
