Steptoe & Johnson’s Nelva Smith and Ryan Stevens will present “From ChatGPT Panic to AI Governance: A Discussion on Building a Higher Ed Compliance Program That Actually Works” during the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (AICUO) AI Symposium on September 30, 2026 in Columbus, OH. AICUO seeks to strengthen student financial aid programs and bring about a greater understanding of the benefits and contributions of Ohio independent colleges and universities.

This session provides colleges and universities with a practical roadmap for developing a coordinated, institution-wide AI governance and compliance program. Attendees will learn how to assign oversight, assess AI use and risks, develop policies, evaluate vendors, address privacy and academic integrity concerns, and implement training and incident-response procedures.
