Biography

Manning J. (Jim) O’Connor is proud to continue the more than 150 -year legacy of his family, which has included many members of the bench and bar. He has over 35 years of trial experience in the state and federal courts of Pennsylvania and is admitted in all Pennsylvania state courts, the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, and the United States Tax Court.

Manning focuses his practice on employment law and complex commercial litigation. His experience in employment law includes defending companies in discrimination, harassment, non-compete/non-solicit, termination and trade secret disputes. In the commercial litigation arena, he handles cases involving breach of contract, shareholder and corporate governance battles, misappropriation of corporate funds and resources, many of which have bet-the-company implications. Jim also handles healthcare litigation, including tax exemption challenges and physician disputes.

Jim devotes a portion of his practice to risk management advice, including in-house presentations to management and employees, as well as responding to situations which arise on a moment’s notice. What Jim imparts to his clients is not hypothetical or theoretical information from an article or a newsletter. Rather, Jim is able to leverage his significant trial and real- life strategic experiences into battle-tested advice which is recent, relevant and reliable.

For 20 years, Jim served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Duquesne University School of Law. Throughout his career, Jim has taken a keen interest in the career development of newer lawyers, especially those interested in spending time in a courtroom. He has also been a presenter at numerous seminars across Pennsylvania on the topics of employment law, commercial litigation and damages, risk management, professional liability, and trial evidence.

Jim’s leisure activities include golfing, shooting, hunting, fishing – and an occasional cigar.
