Steptoe & Johnson Donates Artwork to the Art Museum of WVU in Deem’s Honor
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Patrick D. Deem has been practicing law for more than 50 years. This year his career will end where it began, with Steptoe & Johnson. In honor of his long-time service, Steptoe & Johnson donated a painting to the Art Museum of WVU, a cause that Deem and his wife Alison have supported for many years. Deem’s colleagues recently celebrated his retirement in a virtual ceremony and unveiled the artwork, an early 20th Century painting by Inez McCurdy titled “West Virginia Hills.”
“Pat’s long career is a testament to the exemplary service he has provided to clients, particularly in the banking and energy sectors,” said firm CEO Christopher L. Slaughter. “Much of the firm’s growth throughout the last few decades would not have happened without his influence. He has been a stalwart advocate for the firm, the legal profession, and the causes he supports.”
Deem joined Steptoe & Johnson in 1969 to assist with the business law practice. His practice soon turned to the energy industry and, since then, Deem has been involved in all aspects of major transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and financings. In addition, he has served as a leader within the firm including time as a department chair and an executive committee member. He was instrumental in the planning for construction of the firm’s building at the White Oaks complex in Bridgeport. Deem also served his community as a member of the United Hospital Center board of directors, president of the West Virginia Bar Association, chair of the board of directors of United Summit Center, and many others. Deem is a fellow of the American Bar Association and is named among The Best Lawyers in America.
