Biography
Melissa Munson is a member in the Energy department of Steptoe & Johnson’s The Woodlands, Texas office. Melissa’s practice focuses on the acquisition, divestiture and development of energy assets, including upstream, midstream, services and renewables.
Melissa assists clients with acquisitions and divestitures, joint ventures, exploration, development and drilling arrangements, farmout and participation agreements, and operating agreements. Melissa’s team performs large-scale energy asset due diligence on behalf of purchasers, lenders, and insurers.
Melissa’s transactional practice also includes representation of clients in the esports industry. Melissa works with players, content creators, organizations, sponsors, tournament organizers, and venues on contractual matters.
Representative Experience
- Advised Texas exploration and production companies in farm-in agreements and development of multi-well drilling projects
- Represented a national asset management company in acquisitions of non-operated working interests and joint development of oil and gas wells
- Assisted Texas operators in securing investment for drilling programs through private placements and participation agreements
- Counseled publicly traded oil and gas companies on real property issues related to asset-backed securitizations, reserve-based lending, and other financing arrangements
- Advised companies seeking representations and warranties insurance for the acquisition of wellbore interests
- Represented midstream providers in securing surface and subsurface rights in Texas
- Represented a publicly traded oil and gas company in its divestiture of leasehold assets in Ohio
- Advised an oilfield services company in connection with the joint development of deep injection disposal wells in Texas
- Advised an oilfield services company on the acquisition of properties for saltwater disposal well sites in West Texas
